What happened
The White House Office of Management and Budget proposed a rule that would prohibit federal funds from being used to administer, establish, support or pay for voter registration campaigns or drives. A ProPublica article reports the rule could disproportionately harm voters with disabilities, who already face barriers across registration, transportation and ballot access. Congress currently distributes $10 million annually to 57 nonprofit groups to fund disability-focused voter registration efforts under the Help America Vote Act.1
