What happened

The Department of Justice is sending election monitors to Utah, Republican Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson announced Thursday after being notified of the deployment. Henderson has not been told how many monitors will be sent or where they will be located. Henderson has previously defied Trump administration demands to hand over unredacted voter rolls containing Social Security numbers.1

The DOJ sued Utah and opened an investigation into Henderson after she refused to provide the voter rolls. The DOJ earlier this year announced plans to deploy 1,000 monitors nationally for the midterms, with counties in Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Texas and Washington also notified this week.1
