What happened

A federal judge dismissed the Department of Justice's lawsuit against Utah Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson with prejudice. U.S. District Judge David Barlow, nominated by Trump in 2019, ruled that Utah's statewide voter registration database falls outside the scope of Title III of the Civil Rights Act of 1960. The judge ruled that the database falls outside the law's scope because Henderson's office created and maintains it rather than coming into possession of it.1

The judge denied DOJ's request to compel Henderson to hand over the complete database. The ruling marked the administration's 27th consecutive district court loss in its effort to obtain unredacted state voter rolls.1
