What happened

The North Carolina Court of Appeals heard nearly an hour of oral arguments Wednesday over a lawsuit challenging two state constitutional amendments voters approved in 2018, one lowering the income tax cap from 10% to 7% and one requiring photo ID for in-person voting. The North Carolina State Conference of the NAACP is asking the appellate panel to reverse a unanimous bipartisan three-judge trial court ruling from September 2025 that upheld both amendments.1
