What happened

The North Carolina state legislature granted state auditor Dave Boliek the power to appoint members to the state board of elections and county-level election board chairs. That power was previously held by the governor. Boliek has appointed new members, flipping the state board and all 100 local boards to Republican control.1

The changes have drawn criticism over changes to early voting sites and the removal of Sunday voting in several counties.1
