“Wisconsin officials call for prompt ballot return after court rules against proposed backup plan”, Wednesday, October 14, 2026
What happened
A court on Oct. 6 blocked a plan that would have let voters with late-arriving mail ballots cast provisional ballots on Election Day. Rock County Clerk Lisa Tollefson told reporters Tuesday that voters should hand-deliver ballots, use a drop box, or find an alternate method if Election Day is less than two weeks away. Wisconsin election officials are urging voters to return absentee ballots as early as possible.1
More than 142,000 ballots have already been returned since going out in mid-September.1
