“ACLU of Arizona accuses Maricopa County poll workers of confusing some early voters”, Friday, October 30, 2026
What happened
The ACLU of Arizona accused Maricopa County Recorder's Office poll workers of telling early ballot drop-off voters at a downtown Phoenix vote center that they must show identification, without explaining that signature verification remains an alternative option. The ACLU sent a letter on Oct. 27 to Recorder Justin Heap and the Board of Supervisors detailing eyewitness accounts from volunteers and staff who visited the site after a voter outreach event. Community organizer Aryhannah Meza said she was caught off-guard when a poll worker asked for her ID.1
