What happened

Border Patrol agents who appeared at a North Florida early voting site on October 26 were attempting to cast ballots before leaving the state, not conducting enforcement, Leon County Supervisor of Elections Mark Earley said. The two vehicles carried agents normally stationed in South Florida who had been reassigned out of state. Upon learning they could not vote at the Northeast Library site in Tallahassee because they were not Leon County voters, they left immediately.1

The incident follows reports the previous week of masked federal agents near a Key Largo polling place, prompting Monroe County to open an investigation, with both counties filing formal complaints with the FBI.1
