Federal judge dismissed challenge to Florida voter registration law
A judge ruled that nonprofit groups lacked standing to sue over Florida's exact match policy for voter registration.
A federal judge dismissed a civil rights challenge to Florida's strict voter registration policy, ruling that the nonprofit plaintiffs lacked standing to sue. U.S. District Judge Anne-Leigh Gaylord Moe, a Trump appointee, called the lawsuit 'manufactured by meddlers' in her 34-page order, saying Florida Rising Together and Florida Rising are corporations that cannot vote and therefore have no claim. The groups had argued that Florida's exact match policy, which requires applicants' names, addresses, driver's license numbers and last four Social Security digits to match state or federal databases exactly, disproportionately disenfranchises Black voters and other voters of color through minor errors such as typos.1
