What happened

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the NAACP and League of United Latin American Citizens seeking to force Texas' chief election officer to produce records about a backlog of voter registrations. Judge Xavier Rodriguez dismissed the case on October 29 because the groups failed to show how access to the records would benefit them in the current election. The backlog involved 15,000 voter registrations.1

The judge allowed the groups to amend their complaint to allege proper standing, warning it may still not be enough to warrant emergency relief before the election.1
