North Carolina absentee ballot restrictions upheld for midterms
A federal judge ruled that North Carolina's new absentee ballot restrictions, which include signature matching and envelope sealing requirements, will remain in effect for the midterms. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Schroeder rejected challenges from the North Carolina Alliance for Retired Americans and other voting rights groups. The judge cited the Supreme Court's Purcell principle and faulted plaintiffs for waiting too long to sue.1
More than 30,000 absentee ballots have already been cast and some are being rejected under the new envelope sealing rule.1
