What happened

Montana changed its voter registration requirements last year. A student advocacy group sued over the change. A state judge blocked the new restriction, leaving previous rules in place through Election Day.1

A 1979 Supreme Court ruling affirmed that eligible students may register to vote where they live during the academic year, but the right continues to be contested.1
