“DOJ election monitoring plans exclude Susquehanna Valley counties”, Wednesday, October 28, 2026
What happened
The Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division plans to send election monitors to Philadelphia, Allegheny, Luzerne, and Lehigh counties in Pennsylvania on Election Day. The DOJ told Pennsylvania Secretary of State Al Schmidt in a letter that monitors will only observe and take notes without interfering in voting. Secretary Schmidt said monitors are not entitled to greater polling place access than any member of the public.1
Lancaster County Commissioner Ray D'Agostino noted election monitoring has occurred for decades and is similar to poll watching.1
