What happened

A federal judge blocked the Trump administration from demanding states' unredacted voter rolls. District Court Judge Sparkle L. Sooknanan ruled that the Justice Department had inverted the pro-voting mission of its Civil Rights Division. The judge wrote that DOJ attorneys argued every registered voter is effectively a subject of a voter fraud investigation.1

The ruling barred the agency from building a national database containing voter birthdates and Social Security numbers.1
