What happened

The Trump administration and some conservative election activists raised alarms about Chinese-made components in voting machines, calling them a national security risk ahead of the midterm elections. The three voting technology companies serving roughly 85 percent of registered voters all confirmed they use some Chinese parts. Manufacturers and experts said removing those parts is impossible and that recent intelligence assessments find little evidence adversaries will attempt to manipulate vote counts.1

The American Council for Election Technology said it has a policy addressing foreign components but that domestic sourcing of all electronic parts is not currently feasible.1
