What happened

Claims that voting machines were deliberately flipping votes from Democratic to Republican candidates spread on Facebook, X, and TikTok during 2026 midterm early voting. Posts cited Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and Ohio. Election officials in Tennessee, including Coordinator of Elections Mark Goins, attributed the reported issues to user error or screen calibration.1

Officials noted that equipment is tested before elections and that styluses are available on request. No evidence has emerged of machines being purposely designed with such flaws or of the problem occurring on a wide scale.1
