What happened

The NAACP asked a federal court to block the Department of Justice from deploying federal agents as election monitors. A senior DOJ official confirmed plans to send at least 1,000 monitors from agencies including the Bureau of Prisons, DEA, and ATF to polling sites on Election Day. In a Sunday filing, the NAACP asked U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton for a temporary restraining order or, alternatively, a prohibition on agents carrying firearms, badges, or cameras while monitoring.1

Walton scheduled a hearing for Monday at 1:30 p.m. ET.1
