What happened

The North Carolina State Board of Elections voted Tuesday to extend voting hours at five precincts in four counties after stoppages interrupted voting during the day. Extensions varied by site, with Columbus County's South Williams precinct running until 8:15 p.m. and Hertford County precincts closing at 7:55 p.m. and 8 p.m. All votes cast after 7:30 p.m. were counted as provisional ballots under state law.1

The board said statewide unofficial results would not be published until all polls were closed, with first results expected around 8:15 p.m.1
